Bond … James Bond. Who doesn’t love the spy film franchise with its themes of international intrigue, romance, and adventure? On August 21, as part of the Pacific Symphony’s Summer Festival 2016 at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre, an evening of Bond songs will be performed by guest vocalists Sheena Easton and Scott Coulter with the Pacific Symphony, which is currently in its 38th season under Music Director Carl St.Clair.
Led by guest conductor Albert-George Schram, the concert features an exciting repertoire of Bond songs and other “spy” themes. Two-time Grammy Award-winner Sheena Easton, the featured singer on the James Bond soundtrack “For Your Eyes Only,” will perform that hit song, as well as “Goldfinger,” “The Spy Who Loved Me,” “Diamonds Are Forever,” “Skyfall,” and more. Acclaimed vocalist Scott Coulter will perform several numbers, including “A View to a Kill,” “Against All Odds,” “Windmills of Your Mind” from The Thomas Crown Affair, and “Mack the Knife.” Easton and Coulter will also perform together on “Separate Lives” from White Nights.
In addition to the Bond anthems, “spy” themes from “Mission Impossible,” “Get Smart,” “The Pink Panther,” “The Saint,” “Charlie’s Angels” and other TV shows and movies will also be performed, as well as a “Pop Spy Medley” featuring the music of Hall & Oates, Lionel Richie, and The Police.
So, whether you’re a fan of the debonair 007 or an admirer of pop music, this evening of Bond themes and “spy” songs at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre promises to be a memorable one. It’s the final season for Irvine Meadows, so don’t miss the opportunity to experience a summer evening of music under the stars at the popular outdoor venue. “The Spy Who Loved Me: The Music of James Bond” begins at 7:30.
