Looking for an entertaining way to spend a summer outdoor evening? If so, then the 7th Annual Sunset Jazz at Newport summer series is just the ticket. A beautiful ocean view, along with table service offering food and wine, and world-class jazz artists combine for the perfect summer event. Held on the grounds of the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa, the jazz summer series takes place on Wednesday nights through September 14, 2016.
Sunset Jazz at Newport features some of the most popular artists from the Newport Beach Jazz Party and The Jazz Cruise. On Wednesday, July 27, The Four Freshmen return for their sixth appearance at the Sunset Jazz Series, and this vocal harmony jazz group’s appearance will be their only OC show this summer. On Wednesday, August 3, Bill Cunliffe and Imaginacion play in an exciting program titled “From Rio to Havana,” which features special guest Carol Bach-y-Rita. The acclaimed John Pizzarelli Quartet returns to the Newport stage on Wednesday, August 10; and the Jeff Hamilton Organ Trio featuring Akiko Tsuruga and Graham Dechter perform on Wednesday, August 17. Popular jazz artists scheduled for the remainder of the summer series include the Rebecca Kilgore All-Stars, the Byron Stripling-Bobby Floyd Quartet, the Barbara Morrison-Rickey Woodward Quintet, and Gordon Goodwin’s Little Phat Band.
Performances take place from 6-8:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. with table service featuring food and beverages. Jazz enthusiasts can nosh on appetizing fare such as cheese plates, salads, grilled chicken pesto flatbread, and a Sam & Harry’s Burger while enjoying the sweet sounds. A special Chef’s selection Sunset Jazz Dinner will also be offered each Wednesday. With ocean views, good eats, and world-class jazz music in an intimate setting, the Sunset Jazz at Newport summer series promises to be an enjoyable evening.
