Super Bowl Sunday is considered a holiday in most American households. The most watched televised event, even if your team isn’t in the final game. It’s a day that brings everybody together to eat delicious food, sip on indulgent beverages, socialize, and partake in America’s favorite past time.
In case you don’t know, the 2018 Super Bowl is the 52nd championship game and will take place on Sunday, February 4th, with the New England Patriots taking on the Philadelphia Eagles. This is Bill Belichick’s seventh Super Bowl appearance, leading the way with most attendance for coaches and Tom Brady’s seventh Super Bowl leading the way for quarterbacks with the most starts, rings, and MVP awards!
With all of the hype leading up to the big game, there may be some pressure when it comes to hosting the perfect football celebration, which is why we’ve compiled some of our favorite tips for hosting an epic and chic Super Bowl party that everybody will enjoy no matter who they’re cheering for.
Set up more than one television
If you are having more than five people over, setting up extra televisions is essential! There are typically two kinds of Super Bowl people, the ones who are serious about the game and want to watch every play, and the ones who are there to watch the commercials, a couple of plays, and socialize. By adding multiple entertaining areas, all equipped with T.V.’s you allow your guests to move freely throughout your home and do what they came there to do. Don’t forget to set up an outdoor lounge area to watch the game, equipped with a beverage station and gourmet snacks!
Encourage friendly wagering
There are many ways to place bets on the big game, most of which are perfect for those who know little about football. Of course, have the standard football pools, but incorporate other fun wagers such as who wins the coin toss, who scores the first touch down, a prize for whoever is closest to the final score of the game, etc.
Add gourmet flair to classic Super Bowl dishes
Consider hiring a chef to create the indulgent treats Super Bowl Sunday is known for. Instead of the traditional plates, add a twist to the usual Super Bowl fare to deliver a personal touch to your delicious options. Set up a chili bar where people can DIY their own chili bowls; prepare gourmet sliders, and layout some crudité, cheese, and charcuterie for some healthier options. Of course, an assortment of chips and dips is essential while being easy to prepare and an overall crowd pleasure. Don’t be afraid to add a healthy twist to any of your dishes or incorporate some new bites that are health focused. Ensure you have plenty of options and take into consideration any allergies your attendees may have!
Have plenty of libations
Football and beer go hand in hand. To add a little chicness to your party, have a variety of craft beer bottle options and don’t forget the wine, champagne, and a do it yourself cocktail option (think vodka soda or gin and tonic) or a signature cocktail for each team that is playing. If you want to have a keg at the party, opt for a craft option from a local brewery. Place the keg in a kegerator and be sure to have chilled mugs for those looking to try your craft draft. Along with alcoholic beverages, have plenty of water bottles, sparkling water, and other drinks available for those not drinking and/or needing to hydrate. To end the party on a high note for everyone, have a champagne toast for the winning team!
Keep it relaxed
Remember, it’s Sunday Funday! Let the food be fancy and keep everything else relaxed. You want people to feel comfortable and have fun! Create plush seating areas and communal spaces to encourage people to socialize and meet new people.
Idea: Create an icebreaker with seat rotations at half time to invite your guests to meet someone new!
Get creative with the decor
We get it, football, turf, and of course, the team’s colors are staples at a Super Bowl party. But, instead of opting for the usual (and often tacky) style of decor, get a little creative. Roll out a green carpet, send out personalized party invites, and provide a fun football-themed party favor. Incorporate the team’s colors by using linens, flowers, and other objects, not just the usual football-themed decor.
Create a “selfie” photo area
Have a designated section of your entertaining space dedicated to taking selfies your guests can post on their social media accounts. Have plenty of football-themed props and team colors they can play and get creative with! To go one step further, hire a photographer to take photos of the party and your guests so you can upload them for all your guests to enjoy.
Keep the party going
Have a playlist and tequila ready for post-game festivities. Even though the game has ended, it doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. Invite your guests to stay and continue their conversations with the friends they have connected with.
