Our Favorite Newport Beach Sushi Spots

Craving fresh sushi? We’ve got your back.

There’s nothing like the clean, perfect taste of SoCal sushi. But here in Newport Beach, there are so many restaurants to choose from. That’s where we come in. Keep reading for our top places to devour delectable Japanese cuisine throughout the city.

  1. Sushi ii

Here, you will experience omakase-style courses — so come hungry! The presentation of each dish is to die for. Plus, you can opt for sake and wine pairings with your meal.

  2. San Shi Go

Nestled on the Balboa Pier, San Shi Go is a hot spot for a reason. The vibrant atmosphere and amazing chefs are just the tip of the iceberg. Mouth-watering sushi is served menu-style or omakase-style. Don’t forget reservations — the place is always packed.

  3. Nobu

Of course, this list wouldn’t be complete without a mention of Nobu. Its location in the Lido Marina Village is gorgeous and features harbor views. Discover the unique incorporation of Peruvian ingredients into traditional Japanese dishes. We recommend Chef Nobu’s signature dish: black cod with miso.

  4. Buddha’s Favorite

Located along the bay, Buddha’s Favorite is, well, one of our favorites. The rolls and nigiri are top notch, plus you can reserve a dock, place an order to go, and enjoy your meal on your boat.

  5. Sushi Roku

This is the place to go for innovative sushi. The chefs here are all about a little adventure when it comes to their creations. A little olive oil here, some surprise ingredients there — and you’ve got magic. The beautiful, modern contemporary interior of the restaurant are just a bonus.

  6. Cafe Sakana

Cafe Sakana’s location is in a shopping plaza, but it works with what it’s got. Charming outdoor patio and string lights set the mood for a fabulous meal. The family-owned restaurant prides itself on its affordable omakase and fantastic blue crab hand rolls.

  7. Sushi Shunka

The owner and chef here, Yuki Takishima, brings 30 years of experience to the table. This eatery’s menu features classics, seasonal specialty fish, and even some imports from Japan. If you’re looking to complement your meal with sake, the extensive sake list won’t let you down.

  8. SOTA Sushi

SOTA Sushi prides itself on combining freshly caught local ingredients with traditional Japanese options. The restaurant offers a more intimate dining experience — perfect for date night. SOTA’s menu includes omakase as well as omakase rolls upon request.
