A new year always brings an opportunity for a fresh start, so it’s fitting that designers at the Pantone Color Institute have selected an invigorating, bright green called “Greenery” as their 2017 Color of the Year. Symbolic of new beginnings, the chosen hue is a refreshing and revitalizing shade that represents the physical beauty of the natural world.
As the company’s website states, “Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.”
A versatile, omnipresent shade that can be utilized with many color combinations, Greenery can be paired with neutrals, brights, deeper shade, pastels, and metallics, as well as Pantone’s Color of the Year 2016, Rose Quartz and Serenity. Look for these palettes to appear everywhere in the world of home decorating, in addition to fashion, beauty, graphic design and more.
Home decor and appliances are already sporting Pantone’s 2017 shade, making it easy for those who wish to incorporate the optimistic color into their own personal spaces. Here are a few tips to add Greenery to your own home environment:
Kitchen – In the kitchen, this powerful green hue could be used on an accent wall or green backsplash. Add plants and herbs to create a fresh vibe, and consider energizing your kitchen table by adding green-hued dinnerware, glassware, or table linens. Retailers such as Crate and Barrel, Anthropologie, and IKEA have already incorporated Greenery into some of their tableware and glassware products. Keurig plans to offer one of its coffee makers in this color, too. Besides tableware and other kitchen items, an indoor-outdoor rug is another great way to add a splash of leafy-green to the kitchen area.
Living Room – For a living room or family room, consider adding Greenery as accents in rugs, light fixtures, framed mirrors, artwork, or throw pillows for your sofa. Small accessories such as classic throws and poufs in the lively color can also greatly transform a room. A green sofa will certainly make a bold statement, but another suggestion is to add an accent chair in a solid-green, printed-green or floral fabric. You might be surprised by how much just a touch of this timeless hue can revitalize your living space.
Bedroom – Since a bedroom should always be a calm and comforting sanctuary, Greenery accents would work best here if they aren’t too intense. To add an uplifting energy to the bedroom, consider using Greenery as accents in throw pillows, artwork, rugs, or poufs. Another idea is to try a printed-green fabric or floral fabric for curtains, or opt for fresh green bedding to create an upbeat and happy, yet soothing, environment.
Other Spaces – Besides the kitchen, living room and bedroom spaces, Greenery is showing up in other areas of the home, including bathrooms with green-accented shower curtains, rugs, and other decor. Additionally, expect to see the vibrant color used in outdoor furniture and patio accessories, as well as picnic and beach gear, too.
