One of our favorite hiking spots is Hopalong Cassidy Trail. This 7.4-mile trail is not for beginners, but the view from the loop’s top peak is worth it. For a less intense weekend hike, try Randall Henderson Trail. The 2.5-mile loop is family-friendly and beautiful. For a big challenge, head to Art Smith Trail — you might even spot some bighorn sheep.

2. Food & Drink

   When you’re out of town for the weekend, nothing hits quite like a new eatery. Al fresco meals are dreamy in the desert; try Wildest Restaurant and Bar for food in the fresh air. A string-lit patio is the backdrop for menu options like hearty ribeyes and wild-caught fish. Another classy outdoor choice is Pacifica Seafood Restaurant. Located in the El Paseo shopping district, this rooftop spot offers delicious wine and fresh fish. Guillermo’s Restaurante is a favorite of locals thanks to its delectable margaritas and tequila-marinated fajitas.

3. Shopping

   A weekend shopping spree in Palm Desert? Well, of course! El Paseo is your first stop. This mile-long shopping mecca houses more than 200 luxury shops. It even hosts Fashion Week El Paseo every March! In The Gardens on El Paseo, you’ll find everything from Gucci to Ann Taylor. There is truly something for everyone. The first Friday of every month, El Paseo also has self-guided art walks, a classic car show, and live music. Another weekend favorite is The Shops at Palm Desert. This indoor mall and movie theater is perfect for beating the heat. Another great weekend option is the Sunday Certified Farmers Market that runs from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Entrada del Paseo. 4. Excursions + Experiences

   A weekend visit wouldn’t be complete without a round of golf. The city has many award-winning courses, including Desert Willow Golf Resort. Adrenaline junkies can opt for a biking tour from the hills to the city center or an off-roading Jeep tour. And the ultimate bucket list item? A hot air balloon ride over Palm Desert.

5. Arts + Entertainment

   Maybe your idea of a fun weekend includes music. You’re in luck: McCallum Theatre always has a solid lineup of amazing live music acts. If you’d like to go bigger, visit Acrisure Arena. This brand-new venue is a modern music hall and sports venue that opened its doors in December 2022. Catch a hockey game here or a musical act like The Eagles.
