South Coast Plaza: 5 Secret Dining Spots

South Coast Plaza has long been one of Orange County’s most popular shopping destinations. But many may not know that it’s also a foodie paradise.

Shopping mecca South Coast Plaza has some of the county’s best boutiques. After you shop til you drop, grab a bite at one of these off-the-beaten-path eateries.

  1. Segerstrom Board Room at Water Grill

Looking for a place to host a special event? Look no further than the Board Room at Water Grill. Though located in the front of the restaurant, the Board Room is also private and inconspicuous. Named after South Coast Plaza’s founding family, the Board Room seats up to 14. More than 400 bottles of wine from around the globe line the walls. As a bonus, if you reserve the room during lunchtime, valet parking is free.

  2. Il Bar at Quattro Caffé

Quattro Caffé is a unique South Coast spot. Every day, the café is busy from open to close. But regulars and shoppers who have been coming for decades know a secret: Il Bar. Nestled into a tiny corner of the café, Il Bar has six seats for its guests. Relax with a quick espresso or glass of Italian wine. Whatever you choose, when you sip at Il Bar, you become family.

  3. Charcuterie Station at Vaca

Remember Chef Amar Santana of Top Chef fame? He now runs the popular restaurant Vaca at South Coast Plaza. This Spanish-inspired spot hosts the Charcuterie Station, which is located to the left and across from the bar. You can order off the full menu when you sit here, but many choose to enjoy sliced meats and cheeses. Reservations are accepted, but walk-ins are also welcome. Its proximity to Segerstrom Hall also makes it a great choice for a pre- or post-show meal.

  4. Cooking Classes at Sur La Table

A variety of cooking classes are hosted at South Coast’s location of Sur La Table. From tamales to sushi, food options are endless. Classes take place seven days a week, and some days offer as many as four classes. At the end of class, students enjoy the delectable food they just prepared.

  5. Mah Jong’s by Chef Mike

This may well be South Coast Plaza’s best-kept secret. The 49-seat restaurant/bar is located on Level 1 of Bloomingdale’s. Chef Michael Doctulero servers comfort food dishes with San Francisco, Seattle, and LA flair. Try the homemade chicken soup or calamari crudo. There is also a 12-seat bar where you can sip vino that complements your meal.

South Coast Plaza and its many restaurants are truly amazing. But when it comes to life in Orange County, amazing comes standard. Have you been dreaming of living in the middle of it all?
