After a 21-year absence, football fans can welcome the Los Angeles Rams back to the region by attending training camp at UC Irvine this month. The first of 16 football practices at Crawford Field open to the public began on July 30 and will run through August 25. Admission is free, and all practices are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m., with gates opening at 2:00 p.m. Limited bleacher seating will also be available around the practice field.
Following the practice, select players will be signing autographs for fans 14 and younger who receive a Rams token, which are distributed at random during practice. Children ages 5-14 can register to participate in the Rams Rookie program, where selected participants will receive a Rams Rookies shirt and have the opportunity to be paired with a player during the post-practice autograph signings. A Rams Fan Activation Area will also be operating during training camp, where fans can participate in the Fan Combine Challenge, which includes the opportunity to test their skills in the standing broad jump, the vertical jump, and shuttle run. Fans can then share a photo of their stats to qualify for a free, exclusive LA Rams shirt. The Fan Activation Area will include a large merchandise trailer, in addition to having sodas and concession items available for purchase. This year’s training camp will also feature the filming of the 11th season of Hard Knocks—the sports-based reality show will launch its new season on August 9 (10 p.m-11 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO.
The training camp at UC Irvine marks the start of the Rams 50th season in Southern California. The team played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum from 1946-79 and what was then known as Anaheim Stadium from 1980-94, before moving to St. Louis in 1995, where they played through the 2015 season. After enduring such a long absence of an NFL team in the LA area, the Southland’s excitement is high for the return of the Rams.
